Summarize & pivot
Get totals by region, counts by status or monthly sales by product in a few clicks. Pick what to group by and what to calculate, and optionally spread one column across the top for a pivot table.
How it works
Add a file and tick the columns to group by. Each unique combination becomes one row of the summary.
Add one or more calculations: count of rows, sum, average, minimum, maximum, median, count of unique values or count of non-blank cells. Number columns can include currency symbols, thousands separators and accounting negatives like (300).
To make a pivot table, choose a column to spread across the top, such as Month or Status. Turn on totals for a grand total row or column, then download as Excel, CSV or JSON.
Questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The summary is calculated by your own browser and nothing is sent to a server.
Do I need to clean up numbers first?
Usually not. Values like $1,200.50, 1 200, 45% and (300) are understood. Cells that aren’t numbers are skipped and counted so you know.
How is grouping matched?
Case and surrounding spaces are ignored, so “East”, “east” and “ East ” land in the same group. Blank values are grouped as “(blank)”.
Can I summarize by month?
Yes. Use the Transform tool’s Standardize dates step with the “year-month” format first, then group by that column here.
Is there a size limit?
It depends on your device’s memory. Files with a few hundred thousand rows summarize in a second or two on a typical laptop.
