Privacy
Short version: we don’t keep the VINs you look up or the email addresses you send reports to, and there’s no account.
VINs
When you look up a VIN, your browser asks free U.S. government services (NHTSA and the EPA’s fueleconomy.gov) for the data directly and builds the report on your device. We don’t receive or save the VINs you look up. A VIN identifies a vehicle, not a person, and nothing in the report identifies an owner.
PDFs
When you download a PDF, it’s built in your own browser from the report already on your screen. Nothing extra is sent anywhere.
Emailing a report
If you choose to email a report, the addresses you enter open in your own email app with a link to the report, and the PDF downloads so you can attach it. If our email service is switched on, the addresses are instead sent to our server and passed to our delivery provider (Resend) to send that one message, with each recipient getting a separate email. Either way, we don’t store the addresses, add them to a mailing list, or send anything else.
To prevent abuse we keep daily counters of how many reports were emailed. These counters use one-way hashed values, never readable email addresses or IP addresses, and reset every day.
Cookies and tracking
No advertising or tracking cookies. Your light/dark theme choice is stored in your own browser.
Third-party sites
Links to NHTSA, NICB, NMVTIS, Google and others open those sites, which have their own privacy policies.
